Drink Responsibly with Mahiki
At Mahiki, we are passionate about creating exceptional alcoholic beverages to be enjoyed in good company. However, we are equally committed to promoting responsible drinking. Please take a moment to understand how to enjoy alcohol safely and responsibly.
Tips for Responsible Drinking
- Know Your Limits: Be mindful of your alcohol tolerance and avoid drinking more than you can handle.
- Pace Yourself: Sip your drink slowly and alternate with non-alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated.
- Eat Before and While Drinking: Consuming alcohol on an empty stomach can intensify its effects. A balanced meal before drinking can help.
- Plan Your Journey: If you’re planning to drink, make arrangements for safe travel home, such as a designated driver or public transport.
- Avoid Peer Pressure: Drink at your own pace and only if you want to—never feel obligated.
Know the Guidelines
The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend consuming no more than 14 units of alcohol per week, spread over several days, to minimise risks to your health.
To calculate the units in your drink:
Units=Volume (ml)×Alcohol by Volume (ABV %)÷1,000
For example:
- A 175ml glass of wine (13% ABV) = 2.3 units
- A 330ml bottle of beer (5% ABV) = 1.7 units
When to Avoid Alcohol
Certain situations require complete abstinence from alcohol, including:
- When driving or operating machinery.
- If you are pregnant or trying to conceive.
- When taking medication that interacts with alcohol.
